Tapping into your potential

My approach

Our starting point will be our current level of performance. From there, one looks at what must be improved to perform at a higher level or to set accents.

Assessment is done in two categories. Strengths and weaknesses.
We look at what is absolutely necessary in terms of development to play at a higher level (weakening/eliminating weaknesses). Furthermore, what strengths a player can offer or develop for the team at a higher level (strengths/provide added value for the team).

Strengths

  • What are the current strengths?
  • Are the strengths already at the higher level as well?
  • What is needed in terms of development to provide value to the team at the higher level as well?
  • How can the current skillset be brought to a higher level?

Weaknesses

  • What keeps the player from playing at a higher level?
  • How can we overcome this limiting weakness, or at least weaken it to the point of adding more value than the weaknesses?
  • How many limiting weaknesses are there?
  • Are the weaknesses recognized and is constructive criticism accepted?

Everything can be trained

I personally believe everything can be taught. As a coach, you have to know where you can help.

That is why I look for players who are good in areas where I can only help to a limited extent.

  • Attitude, self-motivation, discipline
  • An eye for spaces, moving in half-spaces, right moments to go in depth

It’s up to you

Only you can walk the path, nobody else can walk it for you.

Have faith in your goal, both emotionally and mentally.
Receive support from your surroundings.
Take constructive criticism and put it to use.
Act with awareness and the goal in mind. Constantly remind yourself of your why.

Jim Rohn: "One of two pains we have to endure: the pain of discipline or the pain of a guilty conscience. The difference is discipline weighs grams; a guilty conscience weighs tons."

"The ordinary can achieve the extraordinary."

Focus

Where your attention goes, your energy flows.

Nowadays, we are bombarded with distractions everywhere, at all times. With advertising/consumption, brief dopamine kicks on social media or Netflix&Co.

Nothing tragic per se, but it often causes us to get lost in it and lose sight of our real goals.

Having this awareness and always focusing back on your actual goal is a terrific strength and a necessity if you wish to achieve great things.
